1970s Haida Indian Carving Norwestman Statue by DerBayzVintage

This stunning vintage black and white Alva Studios Museum Replica of a
Haida Indian Carving "Norwestman" statue made in 1974. Beginning in
1949, Alva contracted with museums such as the Louvre to make hundreds
of reproductions.

The Boston Sea Captain is dramatically posed
and made from a synthetic material called Alvastone or plaster,
developed by Alva Studios to simulate bronze, marble, stone, etc. The
base of the Sea Captain is signed S1 Copyright (sign) 1974 AMR. The
underside is protected with felt and still has the original sticker
which reads (it is hard to read due to wear and age) "Authentic
Reproductions COPYRIGHTED by Alva Museum Replicas, Inc. Alva Studios,
New York, N.Y.". I believe this statue comes from the Egyptian
collection in the Louvre.

The original statue is from the early 19th Century:

Haida
Indian carving from northwest coast, Queen Charlotte Islands, British
Columbia, Canada. Figurine is possibly made of argillite with an Ivory
face. It is identified as a Boston Sea Captain or "Nor'westman."

I
do not believe that my statue has an Ivory face, but a synthetic
reproduction to make it realistic and match the original. The statue is
in good condition, with some chips around the base (which could be
touched up).

Measures approx. 16 3/4" tall

MS Challenge, Can you live with MS for 24 Hours?

I challenge anyone to live a day with MS. You can simulate what is like to be me, by adding a 20 pound weight to each leg and arm, wear multiple layers of cloths so you overheat easily, finally put a back brace on your stomach as tight as you can stand it, almost to the point that you can't breath and then walk around for the day. Force your self to constraint on every movement, my legs and arms don't react immediately or instinctively, every moment takes a conscious thought. Try to function and make your muscles fight through the fatigue and function. Give it a try. Tell me how many times you have to stop brushing your hair and rest so your arms can recover, try folding laundry or do dishes, how much pain does that cause? Also remind yourself that this is a little piece of living with MS, I can't tell you how to simulate the confusion, the daily pain or inability to tell your muscles to do something. Let me know how long you can make it, because unfortunately, when you get tired or start hurting you can remove the weights, belt and extra cloths, I cannot, I am stuck with them and have learned how to accommodate and live with them.

Can you live 24 hours with something I live with everyday! PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THE CHALLENGE IF IT IS NOT SAFE FOR YOU TO DO SO!

This is why I am presenting this challenge:

I pulled into work today and there was a car parked in my spot. I didn't think anything of it other than wow someone beat me to work today! I parked in the next handicap spot and as I was walking by the car I noticed no handicap plates or hanging tag. OK, I was a little annoyed. Then a gentleman carrying a very big box comes walking out the door. I don't know what happened but the bottom of the box let go and stuff went everywhere. So I stopped and helped him put the box back together and asked "Did you forget to hang your tag?", he seemed confused and said "No, I parked in the handicap spot because I had this heavy box and wanted to be close." Really WTF, not what handicap spots are for! I decided to go into the office because fighting with a stranger in dark empty parking lot is not a great idea. As I unlocked the door he yelled "Crap this is your spot, I'm sorry I didn't think anyone like you would be here this early, please move your car, I am moving now." Anyone Like me!!!! Really! I walked inside waited for him to leave the parking lot and then moved my car to her spot. It is so frustrating that people don't understand what a handicap spot is for!

The next time you think hey I can park in a handicap spot for a brief moment and it won't affect anyone, remember the day you tried living with MS. ‪#‎MSChallenge‬. Share this post MSChallenge on Facebook! How many people with accept my challenge!
