499.99 USD

You have found a great gift for Dad or addition to your library decor, with this rare Battle of Waterloo Chess Set from Franklin Mint 1984, This collectors by subscription only chess set has richly detailed portrait sculptures of great American heroes, in solid pewter, solid brass and fine enamels. This is a heirloom chess set to be enjoyed for generations. Created by the world famous craftsmen Philip J. Haythornthwaite, of the Franklin Mint. The set is a dramatic and fascinating tribute to the heroes of both the French and Seventh Coalition armies. The playing pieces are richly-detailed three-dimensional portrait sculptures of the great Generals on both sides, as well as enlisted men.

Every figure is a new and original work, created expressly for this unique chess set. Some are shown standing, some seated, some kneeling, some mounted on horseback. Each piece is captured for the ages in solid pewter, then set atop a solid brass pedestal base embellished with a circular band of colored enamel---blue for the French soldiers and red for those of the Allied armies.

The board is good condition. Each piece is signed and dated.

Measures approx:

The King is 2 1/4" tall
The Queen is 2" tall
The board is 13" square

This vintage chess set is my personal favorite. It is an intricately crafted and detailed set of chess pieces. Each chess piece is lovingly and would be consider a stand alone sculpture.

Shipping on this item is high due to the size and weight of the piece.
