The backstamp...

I have not been able to identify the backstamp but it is red with three leaves in center of a circle. The outer circle reads "Hand Painted, Made in Japan.

These would make a lovely wedding gift.

Luster ware was made by applying a metallic solution to the surface of a piece of pottery before the final firing. The metals gold, copper, and platinum were chemically dissolved and applied with a brush or by dipping. In the early production, the body was generally a coarse earthenware. Later a porcelain base was sometimes used.
