This great Mid Century catalin mah jong set was made by Cardinal Products Co. in the 1950's. It features 152 catalin tiles and racks. There are five beautifully marbled bakelite racks in great colors with bakelite tile stops, two open brown paper trays. The trays are in good condition with strong, stable walls. The interior of lid has is labeled mah jongg Cardinal Products Co. in upper left hand corner. Closed outer case measures approximately 19 1/2" by 9" by 3". The tiles have retained good color on markings and have a beautiful golden patina.

The outer case is in very good condition for its age. There is some bumping and wear to the corners. The original handle is strong and the latches close completely and securely. There is no key. The bakelite racks are in good condition with no chips or gouges. The brass hardware has tarnish appropriate for this set's age.

Set Description:

152 hand carved and painted Chinese Bakelite tiles. These tiles are solid Chinese Bakelite. The tiles are overall in nice condition. There are some random marks on the tiles, just a few small flea bites on a few tiles. The paint is in nice condition as well, with light paint loss on some tiles. Tile measures approx. 1 3/16" by 7/8" by 7/16"

o 36 Bamboo tiles, 4 each of 1-9

o 36 Crack tiles, 4 each of 1-9

o 16 Wind tiles: 4 each of East, North, West and South

o 12 Dragon tiles: 4 each of White, Red and Green

o 8 Flowers 1 - 1 Flower, 2 - 2 Flower, 2 - 3 Flower and 3 - 4 Flower (so why not in pairs??? I don't know, manufacturing mistake?)

o 8 Joker Tiles.

This is a terrific collectible vintage mah jong set in overall very good vintage condition - perfect for gift giving or for treating oneself!
