Rare Antique EAPG Footed Spooner / Clear to Purple Glass / Flint Glass Open Sugar Bowl / Sun Purple Rose Bowl by DerBayzVintage

49.99 USD

This is a lovely simple but classic rare antique EAPG (Early American Pattern Glass) footed spooner from the mid to late 1800's. The clear glass in this sugar bowl when exposed to direct sun light turns the glass to a rich purple color due to the fact that the glass was made without lead, containing manganese instead. The manganese in the glass has been found to turn a very light lavender if placed in a sunny window or otherwise exposed over time to ultraviolet rays of the sun. This piece has been exposed to the sun, naturally over the past hundred years and has reacted with the magnesium in the glass and created this glorious purple antique. The practice of using manganese in glass was stopped in 1914.

This footed bowl has four ornate feet and a sweet ornate scroll design near the rim. This glass rose bowl, open sugar, spooner measures approx. 5" tall.

The vintage glass has a fine scratches from normal usage. It is old but pretty well preserved for it's age. The feet make it nice and sturdy, and the glass is heavy. The bowl could also be used as a spooner, trinket holder or rose bowl. It is spectacular to look at with the charming style, amazing color, and the wonderful design.
