Williamsburg Pewter by Kirk Stieff / Round Bowl Soup Spoon / Pewter Gumbo Spoon / Souvenir Spoon / STIEFF Pewter Williamsburg Restoration by DerBayzVintage

29.99 USD

Own a piece of history with this Williamsburg pewter round bowl soup or gumbo spoon by Kirk Stieff. This is a great souvenir spoon from the person who fought for proper sterling silver markings and identification. Kirk Stieff made flatware for Colonial Williamsburg restaurants in the 1950's. This looked like sterling, felt like sterling, if must be sterling. But guess what, it isn't sterling, it is pewter. The silverware was so beautiful that people would steal the silverware from the restaurants, was this piece stolen, I do not know, it was part of my father-laws collection.

Charles C. Stieff championed the “Sterling Silver” laws and worked very hard to get them passed and enforced. Notice the lack of the works STERLING on this piece. That alone is proof that this is not Sterling. If a piece says STIEFF and does not have Sterling stamped on it, it is not now and never be sterling, it is pewter.

Measures 6 3/4" long

CONDITION:

Light tarnish and scratches on bowl of the spoon. No pitting, no dents, etc. Overall in good condition for a 76 years old spoon.
